Tommy thanks for the info. I've decided to go with Shell DONAX DT @ $27.31 per 5 gal. My local Kubota dealer sells Super UDT for $69.00/5 gal. I received a email from Shell Corp. informing me that Donax DT meets all warrenty requirements. TEXACO makes the same claim with their DTH product. Rich

Thanks to all for your valuable input. Seems as both tractors will do the job. The Cub Cadet dealer is 26 miles distant. Run by a father son team, both good people, the father is about to retire and I am a little aprehensive the son might drop his dealership. The NH dealer is a 47 mile drive and has been in business forever. This might come down to a coin toss. Again thanks for your thoughts. Rich S.

Trying to decide which way to go - the TC40 @ $14,700 or the Cub Cadet 7360SS @ $14,600. I am replacing a very tired MF135. What ever I buy will be used to plow (ford 2 bottom) 5 acres, bush hog ops and hauling a few trees out of the woods. Would appreciate any comments on my prices (Lynchbur, Va area) and thoughts on what machine is more reliable. Thanks, Rich S.

Has anyone heard about any tractor end-of-season sales this year? With the drought affecting much of the country, maybe mid-summer replacement sales were down enough to warrant some discounts? (I know JD has been having sellouts on models, but are any other dealers still overstocked?)<br>We have about 8 acres. About .75 level acre to mow. A half mile hiking trail wandering up and down through the woods that might benefit from occasional raking. AND a 300 foot steep NORTH facing paved driveway to plow or snowblow. We are in southern NY (Orange Cty). We have had a few mild winters, but now that I have a steep north-facing driveway. . .<br>Will a 20-25 HP 4wd compact be good for this? Will I need a loader for snow removal or is a plow good enough?.......thanks, Rich S.

We're buying about 8 acres (2 acres mowing) in lower NY state. The current owner wanted to sell a used compact tractor. I wanted to buy it. The dealer found enough wrong that I didn't accept the offered unit. <br>This site is GREAT for a tractor owner wannabe like me. I've a lot to learn and there's a lot here. I'm learning about makes/models/attachments etc.<br>One major question: isn't there a common reference site with specs on the most popular compact tractors of recent years? I want to scan paper and online ads to guage prices; getting ready to buy something for snow removal this winter. Where can I look up the HP, drive wheels, weight, pump capacity, etc., on units I see advertised? Do I need to buy a price/feature book on used tractors, or is it online SOMEWHERE?!.........tia, Rich S.

We're buying a 4yr old house with a septic tile field on a flat acre near the road. Offered with the house is a Massey Ferguson 1020, 4wd, 25hp/17@PTO, dual ag tires in back. I think the current owner has run this compact tractor over the tile fields for raking leaves and moving soil and mulch. This is a fairly light tractor, with four rear tires. Will this damage a tile field? Can I use a 60 inch 3-pt finishing mower over that field or do I need to get a little lawn tractor to be sure I don't compact the tile field or crush the pipes?<br>........Rich S.

Newcomer needs help! The most I've run up til now is a 10hp snow blower. <br>We're buying a house on 8 acres in Orange Cty, NY. The seller has a MF 1205, series 2962, with 1100 hrs on it. He wants $6000. 4wd, 3cyl diesel, 21hp@2350, PTO=17hp@587. 3spd x 4 settings = 12 speed? Front loader

Critical need is snow plowing 300' paved steep twisty driveway (downhill from house). Other uses: mowing 1-1.5 acre flat lawn , running log splitter, hauling wood+mulch, minor landscaping.
I know I couldn't touch a new compact tractor for that price ($6000). Would a large garden tractor with a 2-stage snow blower be able to do most of this kind of work.
